Girls Scout Happenings Around Hampton. . . Business Owners give Back
by Diane Prem
At Pasquale's Pizza on Ferguson Road in Allison Park, owner Matt Schlegel, gave Brownie Troop 5025 a complementary tour and talked about what it takes to run a business. Then the fun began. The Brownies took turns entering their orders in the computer, followed them to a screen in the kitchen, prepared their own pizzas, shoved them in the oven and cut them when they came out. The visit ended with a friendly competition when the owner gave each girl scout a flat pizza box to figure out how to fold. The girls left with their pizzas and a Junior Pizza Maker Patch.
At Young Brothers Tae Kwon-Do Institute on Kenneth Drive in Gibsonia, Master Dee Cottage, helped Cadette Troop 50688 earn their Best Defense Badge. Demonstrating self defense techniques, the girl scouts learned that quick thinking, being alert, and planning ahead, can help to protect them and can defuse a conflict before it starts. The troop practiced anti-bulling techniques and walked away with an increased sense of self confidence and personal safety. She offered her services and expertise free of charge to the troop in exchange for a charitable service to the community.
Hartwood Acres Mansion was the site of a two day effort by Cadette Troop 50782 Girl Scouts, joined by other scouts, friends and family, to plant the extensive flower gardens adjacent to the mansion. Pizza was provided to all helpers to thank them for their hard work and dedicated efforts.
